Kansas City Royals Team Report - April 15th

From The Sports Network

(Sports Network) - Mike Sweeney finished with two hits, including a homer, and drove in four runs to lead Kansas City to a 12-4 win over Cleveland in the finale of a four-game series at Jacobs Field on Monday.

Carlos Febles contributed three hits and three runs batted in, while Michael Tucker added two hits, including a homer, for the Royals, who have won 10 of their first 11 games overall.

Ken Harvey and Brent Mayne also homered for Kansas City, which is off to its best start in franchise history. The homer for Harvey was a solo shot and his first career round-tripper.

Jeremy Affeldt (2-0) allowed five hits and three runs -- two earned -- in five innings of work for the victory.

Kansas City's Rontrez Johnson registered his first career hit in the ninth, while Jason Grimsley worked a scoreless eighth inning and Ryan Bukvich a shutout ninth for the Royals.

Miguel Asencio will make his third start of the season tonight, as he tries to shut down the White Sox in the first game of this three-game set from U.S. Cellular Field. He went five innings in his most recent outing of the year, allowing only one unearned run and six hits while recording his first victory of the year.

Asencio (1-0) has not pitched well in his career against the White Sox, posting a record of 1-2 and an ERA of 5.96. This will mark the second time that he has faced Chicago this season. Asencio went just five innings and allowed four earned runs on five hits in his first outing against Chicago on April 3rd.
