Kansas City Royals Team Report - April 19th

From The Sports Network

(Sports Network) - The Royals claimed their first victory in three games last night with a 4-3 win over the last place Detroit Tigers in 11 innings at Kauffman Stadium.

Ken Harvey belted the game-winning home run. Harvey went 2-for-5 with two runs scored for Kansas City, which opened a six-game homestand with the win. Raul Ibanez had two hits, including a solo homer in the sixth for the Royals, who broke a two-game skid and improved to 12-3 this season.

D.J. Carrasco (1-0) picked up his first major league win with a scoreless 11th. Darrell May started for the Royals and did not figure in the decision. He gave up three runs -- two earned -- in six innings.

The Royals activated starting centerfielder Carlos Beltran from the 15-day disabled list prior to the game. He missed the Royals' first 14 games due to a strained right oblique. Beltran batted third and went 0-for-4 in his return to the lineup.

The Royals will send lefthander Jeremy Affeldt to the mound today. Affeldt has won his last two starts, including a 12-4 win at Cleveland on April 14, his last outing. He allowed three runs -- two earned -- and five hits in five innings.

Affeldt beat the Tigers at Comerica Park on April 9, allowing five runs and four hits over 5 2-3 innings of a 9-6 victory, which improved his career record against Detroit to 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA.
