Anaheim Angels Team Report - April 19th

From The Sports Network

(Sports Network) - Coming off back-to-back losses that have dropped them two games out of first place in the AL West, the Anaheim Angels have an opportunity to gain ground on Seattle as the two teams play the second of three straight weekend tilts.

Last night, Anaheim dropped an 8-2 decision to Seattle despite racking up 13 hits in the contest.

Shawn Wooten and Brad Fullmer each had two hits and an RBI in the opener for the Angels, who have lost four of their last five. Ramon Ortiz (2-2) got hit hard and gave up six runs on six hits in 7 2/3 innings.

Kevin Appier will attempt to improve his 1-2 record and 6.61 ERA when he takes the hill tonight. Appier allowed four earned runs and five hits in 6.1 innings of Monday's loss to Texas.

In 29 career starts against Seattle, Appier owns a 16-7 record and a respectable 3.11 ERA.

Anaheim, which is 3-7 on the road this season, does own a 5-2 mark at Edison Field.

Garret Anderson leads the Angels with a .403 average, and Tim Salmon is tops on the squad with five home runs.

Anaheim won two of three meetings between these clubs in their first series of the year.
