Seattle Mariners Team Report - April 20th

From The Sports Network

(Sports Network) - The Seattle Mariners, who surrendered three runs in the bottom of the ninth last night en route to a 7-6 loss to Anaheim, concludes its three-game series with the Angels today.

Seattle had won six of its last seven games overall to grab the top slot in the West by one half game over Oakland, but last night's defeat has allowed the Athletics to regain a share of the division lead.

Mark McLemore hit a two-run homer and Ben Davis ended 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Mariners, who suffered just their second loss in eight games. Kazuhiro Sasaki (1-1) absorbed the loss, yielding three runs -- two earned -- in one- third of an inning.

Ichiro Suzuki is hitting just .250 so far this season for the Mariners, and Cameron is currently batting .242. The two players combined to go 1-for-6 yesterday.

Seattle is set to send righthander Ryan Franklin to the mound today. Franklin, who owns a 1-1 record and a 4.82 ERA, allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out seven over six innings of a no decision on Tuesday.

The southpaw suffered his only loss of the season against Anaheim on April 10 and owns a 2-2 record and a 2.23 ERA against the Angels in five career starts.

Designate hitter Edgar Martinez has been steady as usual for the Mariners, as he was 2-for-4 last night to raise his average to .370.
