Royals starter Affeldt placed on disabled list

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jeremy Affeldt was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a blister on his pitching hand.

Affeldt was forced to leave Saturday's game against the Detroit Tigers after three innings. He gave up four hits and two runs in the Royals' 9-2 victory. He was 2-0 with a 5.12 ERA in four starts this season.

The 23-year-old Affeldt was sidelined for large parts of last season with a similar problem. Affeldt developed a blister on the middle finger of his left hand and the Royals are not sure how long he will be sidelined.

"Whatever it takes," Royals manager Tony Pena said. "We will not push too hard. I want to make sure that whenever he comes back that blister is totally gone. He had been doing real good. We just need to get him back to that."

Affeldt will be replaced on the roster by Jeremy Hill, who was called up from Triple-A Omaha.
