Texas Rangers Team Report - April 23
(Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers can even their home record at 6-6 with a
win over the Boston Red Sox tonight in the second of the three games at the
Ballpark.
Last night, Texas dropped a disappointing 5-4 decision to Pedro Martinez and
the Red Sox.
Juan Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a homer and three runs batted in for the
Rangers, who lost for the third time in four games. Alex Rodriguez doubled and
scored twice for Texas, while Rafael Palmeiro also drove in a run. Rodriguez,
though, has driven in just three runs in his last eight games.
Gonzalez's home run was his first extra base-hit in 11 games.
Chan Ho Park (1-3) took the loss for Texas. He was tagged for four runs on
eight hits in seven innings, walked two and struck out three. As a team, Texas
has allowed an AL-high 90 walks on the season.
John Thompson will take the hill tonight for the Rangers and is still
searching for his first win in the American League. Thompson, who signed with
Texas as a free agent in January after spending the previous five seasons in
the National League, is 0-2 on the year with a 5.57 ERA. In his last outing he
surrendered three runs on eight hits over 3 2/3 innings in a 9-0 loss to the
Oakland A's, as the Rangers fell to 0-4 in his starts this season.
The 29-year-old righthander has never faced the Red Sox in his career.
Texas has allowed 49 more runs than it has scored thus far.
