Texas Rangers Team Report - April 24

(Sports Network) - John Thomson worked seven strong innings and Juan Gonzalez and Michael Young each drove in two runs, as the Texas Rangers defeated the Boston Red Sox, 6-1 on Wednesday.

Thomson (1-2) allowed just one run on six hits, walked one and struck out three en route to his first career American League win.

Thomson was signed by Texas as a free agent in January after spending the previous five seasons in the National League.

Hank Blalock went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Ryan Christenson homered for Texas.

Texas outfielder Doug Glanville underwent surgery Wednesday to remove a torn hamstring tendon behind his right knee. He was placed on the 15-day DL on April 17.

The Rangers starting pitching has started to come around of late and has gone at least six innings in eight of their last 10 games.

Texas will send righthander Ryan Drese to the mound today in the rubber game of this three-game set against the Red Sox. In his most recent outing, Drese went seven innings after allowing four earned runs and striking out eight batters, en route to his first victory of the year.

Drese (1-1) has not pitched well in his career against Boston, as he has a record of just 0-1 and an ERA of 8.31. While he has struck out eight Red Sox batters in 13 innings pitched against them, he has also walked seven.
