Seattle Mariners Team Report - April 25

(Sports Network) - The Seattle Mariners recorded a 4-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians yesterday, completing a sweep of the three-game series at Safeco Field.

Jamie Moyer allowed two runs over six innings and Bret Boone delivered a two- run single in the win. Moyer (3-1) permitted six hits while walking two and striking out seven to help the Mariners post their fourth straight victory and 10th in the last 12 overall.

Giovanni Carrara, Shigetoshi Hasegawa and Jeff Nelson each pitched a shutout inning in relief. Nelson struck out two in the ninth for his first save of the season, which preserved Seattle's first sweep of the Indians since July 9-11, 1993.

Seattle has overcome a sluggish start to the campaign and currently holds the top spot in the AL West by two games over Oakland.

The Mariners have an excellent opportunity to increase their lead in the AL West as they welcome the lowly Detroit Tigers to Safeco tonight for the opener of a three-game set.

Joel Pineiro gets the call tonight for Seattle and is 1-1 with a 4.85 ERA. The 24-year-old righthander allowed four runs on six hits over six innings his last start, but did not factor in the decision of his team's 7-6 loss to the Anaheim Angels.

Pineiro is 2-0 with a 3.24 ERA in three games, including two starts, against the Tigers.
