Seattle Mariners Team Report - April 26

(Sports Network) - The Seattle Mariners target their sixth straight win tonight when they square off against the lowly Detroit Tigers in the second game of a three-game set at Safeco Field.

Righthander Ryan Franklin will head to the mound for the Mariners, who are going for five straight at home against the Tigers, dating back to last season.

Franklin pitched well in his last outing, allowing just two runs on six hits over seven innings of work against the Angels on April 20. Franklin did not figure in the decision.

The righthander is 1-0 against the Tigers in four career appearances.

Last night, Bret Boone drove in three runs and Joel Pineiro threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings as the Seattle Mariners blanked the Detroit Tigers, 6-0. Randy Winn went 3-for-4 and came within a home run of a cycle for the Mariners.

Boone is just 2-for-14 in his last four games.

Pineiro (2-1) struck out six and allowed four hits over 5 1/3 innings to earn the victory. He walked six batters in the game, but the anemic Detroit offense failed to capitalize.

Seattle was 5-2 against the Tigers last season and took all three meetings in Safeco. The Mariners are 11-4 against the Tigers dating back to the 2001 season and have a 7-1 mark at Safeco Field over that time span.
