Seattle Mariners Team Report - May 2

(Sports Network) - The Mariners will head to U.S. Cellular Field to take on the White Sox in a three-game series which begins today.

The Mariners comes into Friday's affair after dropping two of three to the New York Yankees, including Thursday's rubber match, 2-1. Dan Wilson knocked in the lone run for Seattle and Ichiro Suzuki had two hits. The Mariners have lost two straight for the first time since dropping three in a row from April 9-11.

Joel Pineiro (2-2) was strong for Seattle, allowing just two runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts in seven innings. However, two of the hits went for homers and they proved to be the difference.

Suzuki, who is batting just .252 (29-for-115) this season, finished 3-for-14 in the series for the Mariners, who outscored the Yankees 12-10 despite losing the series.

Ryan Franklin will get the call tonight for Seattle and will be looking to rebound from his worst outing of the season in his last start. Franklin, 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA, allowed five runs- four earned - on nine hits over 6 1/3 innings in a 6-4 loss to the lowly Detroit Tigers.

The 30-year-old righty has appeared in eight games - one start - against the White Sox in his career and is 2-2 with a 3.72 ERA.

Edgar Martinez remains two hits short of 2,000 for his career.
