Harrison, Taylor and Black named AFC Players of the Week
New York, NY (Sports Network) - Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin
Harrison, Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor and Houston Texans kick
returner Avion Black were named the AFC's Offensive, Defensive and Special
Teams Players of the Week, respectively, for the 15th week of the NFL season.
Harrison caught nine passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns in the Colts'
28-23 victory at Cleveland and, in doing so, set a new single-season record
for most receptions in a year.
Harrison now has 127 catches on the year, passing Herman Moore, who caught 123
balls for the Lions in 1995. Harrison also became the first player in NFL
history to post consecutive 1,500-yard receiving seasons.
In 14 games this season, Harrison has caught 10 touchdown passes, becoming the
only player in Colts history to record double-digits in touchdowns in four
consecutive seasons. This is his third Player of the Week Award.
Taylor recorded eight tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles, four
quarterback pressures and three more tackles for loss in Miami's 23-17 victory
over Oakland on Sunday as the Dolphins held the Raiders to just 218 yards of
total offense.
The three sacks for Taylor tied a career-high for a single game and gave him
an NFL-leading 17 for the season, the second highest in Dolphins history. This
is Taylor's second Player of the Week honor this year. Taylor also earned the
award for his performance in Miami's 24-22 win over Denver in October.
Additionally, Taylor was named AFC Defensive Player of the Month for both
October and November. In 90 career games, all with the Dolphins, Taylor has
registered 57 sacks, 326 tackles and three interceptions.
Black posted the first punt return for a touchdown in Texans' history on
Sunday, but Houston lost to the Baltimore Ravens, 23-19. The 76-yard run
brought the Texans within 20-14 late in the third quarter.
Black finished the game with 206 return yards on three punt returns for 92
yards and six kick returns for 114 yards. With the run-backs, he gave the
Texans three drive starts at their own 32-yard-line or better. This is his
first Player of the Week honor.
Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week were: Jeff Blake, Plaxico
Burress, Chris Chambers, Jay Fiedler, Travis Henry, Priest Holmes and Clinton
Portis.
Dwight Freeney, Jason Gildon and Adalius Thomas were in the running for
Defensive Player of the Week, while Mike Hollis and Jeff Reed were considered
for the special teams honor.
